Student Committee Members 09/10

Purpose All committees are composed of both students and faculty. Some committees have University staff as well. The mix depends on the individual committee, but in all cases students are expected to attend all meetings and participate. Each committee has seats for two to five student members.
Principle Functions: Both the ASUO and the committees expect student members to be strong contributors to the committee discussion, as the presence of students on these boards is a fundamental part of student influence on University policy. Students are not junior members of the committee, they are representatives of the student population and will be treated as equal to the faculty members. Student members of these boards represent more than their individual opinion; they represent the students of the entire campus.
Upon being appointed to the committee, student members will be asked to sign a contract obliging them to attend all meetings, submit a brief monthly report to the ASUO University Liaison on the activities of their committee, attend one POD meeting per term, and write an end-of-the-year report.
Time Span 2009 - 2010
Position Type: University, Administrative, ASUO Committees
Requirements: ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
Time Commitment: The Academic Requirements Committee meets approximately twice per month for two hours at a time. There is no time required outside of meetings.
Description: The Academic Requirements Committee hears petitions from students who would like to have academic requirements for graduation waived for extenuating circumstances. Thus, the committee has the authority to help students graduate and uphold the academic requirements process. Student presence is very important because faculty do not always understand student circumstances.
