Message from Chief Justice Schultz
To Whom It May Concern:
On March 1, 2012, I assumed the position of Chief Justice of the ASUO Constitution Court. While I look forward to a successful tenure as the Chief Justice of the Court, I would like to reflect on the departure of three incredible student leaders.
I hope that all of you will reflect upon the work and dedication that former-Chief Justice Washington has performed as the leader of the Constitution Court during his tenure. Andrae has lead the Court and, often, the entire ASUO through some of its most contentious times. He has exemplified what we expect of a Constitution Court Justice. Living up to Andrae's reputation as both a leader of the community and tireless advocate for justice will be a challenge, but one that I welcome.
I would also like to acknowledge that the Court will be losing two Justices by the end of the academic year. Justice Megan Benevento and Justice Jerrett Glass have brought diverse experiences and unwavering enthusiasm to the service on the Court. I cannot convey what an honor it has been to work alongside all three of these brilliant and dedicated student leaders. While all three individuals will continue to serve the ASUO for the next few weeks, I wanted to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation for their years of service to the student body.
The Constitution Court is entering a period of growth and change. During my tenure as Chief Justice I intend to implement many changes to the Court's operation and structure; changes that I feel will greatly benefit the ASUO and are inevitably necessary to meet today's challenges. I have had the privilege of serving as the both the Chairman of the Programs Finance Committee and the Vice President of the Student Senate during my years as an undergraduate student. I will rely upon these experiences, as well as my time on the Court, in leading the Court towards a period of reform and prosperity.
I look forward to working alongside the ASUO Executive and the ASUO Senate to ensure that the students of the University of Oregon enjoy a student government capable of addressing pressing issues in a transparent and accountable manner.
Best Regards,
Chief Justice Nick Schultz
